Ecological Renovations
Trulli are buildings particularly suited for an ecological
restoration, for the following reasons:
traditionally they were already
built for the collection of water from the roof in
underground cisterns, which will just need to
be modernised or repaired
due to the hot summers, solar panels
can provide you with 100% of your hot water needs
between March and October and still contribute to
it in the winter months (% depending on the weather)
an under floor heating system can
be run with additional solar panels or wood burning
stoves
traditional building materials,
such a "calce" (limestone), local stone of different
texture and hardness and cork, can entirely replace
cement, industrial bricks, synthetic insulation panels
and commercial paint.
photo-voltaic panels can become your
main electricity supply
the grey waters of the buildings
can be recycled and re-used for irrigation (considering
that in summer the area can suffer from water shortage)
natural swimming pools purified
with aquatic plants will avoid the use of chemicals,
reduce consistently the daily maintenance of your
pool and substantially cut the costs involved.
